What are TackRoam's Community Guidelines?

We’re a community of like-minded Canadian equestrians who support one another. Our basic rules:

  1. Be kind, respectful and honest. Treat others as you wish to be treated.
  2. Communication is key. Check your messages regularly to ensure buyer questions or concerns are answered.
  3. Ship orders and coordinate item pickup as promptly as possible. All orders must be shipped or delivered (and marked as ‘shipped’ or 'delivered') within 14 days, but sooner is ideal.
  4. Mark your order as ‘received’ as soon as you get it to ensure a prompt payment release to the seller.
  5. Retain proof of postage in case something goes wrong with the order in transit. Always provide your customer with a tracking number for their order.
  6. Have your items clean and ready to go to their next home. If your item is no longer available, please close the listing.
  7. Rate your fellow users. TackRoam is built on trust and ratings help establish that.
  8. Please keep transactions within TackRoam. Users taking transactions off-site will be banned.
  9. All users accept Tackroam’s Terms of Service.

How much does it cost to join TackRoam?

It's FREE to join, browse and list items on TackRoam. There are no added fees for buyers. As a seller, once your sale has been delivered and received by your buyer, you keep 80% of the funds and TackRoam's commission is 20%. We handle the secure financial transaction for you (including paying credit card processing fees) and serve as your customer support team for your sale.

Why do I need to connect my bank account in order to list items?

So we can send you money when your tack sells! 🐴 💸 Since TackRoam sellers accept secure credit card payments from other members, they essentially operate as vendors or small businesses. Any individual or company accepting credit card payments in Canada must have a destination — i.e. a bank account — for the funds in order to be legally (PCI) compliant. Therefore, in order to list items and legally receive payouts, sellers must connect a bank account securely through Stripe. The details are only used for receiving deposits and can be edited at any time.

How do I calculate shipping?

Your Canada-wide shipping cost may be based on a specific quote from a postal carrier, or may simply be what you feel is fair for the item. It can even be $0.00 if you want to offer free shipping! If your item fits in a flat rate shipping box from Canada Post you may prefer to use that. Keep in mind your eventual buyer may live anywhere in Canada, so set your shipping rate accordingly. Individual sellers are responsible for accurately calculating the cost to ship their item across Canada. The shipping fee will be collected from the buyer when their order is placed and released to seller, along with the funds from the sale, when the order is marked as "received". How can I attract more buyers to my used tack listings?

Here are some suggestions:

  1. Take clear photos of your item from multiple angles and in bright, natural light.
  2. Include keywords in the title and description of your item. The searchability of your listing improves the more descriptive you are!
  3. Provide prompt and strong customer service to earn positive reviews. TackRoam is built on trust. Future buyers will be more inclined to purchase from you if you have many 5-star ratings!
  4. Self-promote! Use the unique URLs of your listings and user profile (i.e. your 'tackroom') to drive buyers to your items.
  5. Price your item competitively. Look at what similar items are selling for and decide what you feel is reasonable. Adjust as needed.
  6. Post more items! If buyers are drawn to one of your items they may be inclined to look at your entire 'tackroom' (ie. your profile page) and make a purchase.

How can I contact the seller with a question before buying?

Scroll down to the bottom of the listing you are interested in and you will see a section called About the Seller. Click on Contact Me to open a conversation with the seller.

All conversations with buyers and sellers are stored in your INBOX, which can be accessed from the top right corner of any page (desktop) or the dropdown menu (mobile).

Is the messaging system private?

Yes, messaging is private between you and other users. TackRoam Support can access messages if required.

How is my payment handled?

We use Stripe, a global payment processing platform, to ensure transactions are as secure as possible for all users. When you purchase an item from another user, your credit card payment is securely held until you receive your order. See Terms of Service for more information.

How do I know if the buyer has paid?

Once you receive an order from a buyer, it means the full payment has already being collected from them and is being securely held by Stripe. You can go ahead and ship the item or arrange pickup with the buyer. Once the order is complete, the payout will be released to you.

When will I receive my payout from my sale?

We use Stripe, a global payment processing platform, to ensure transactions are as secure as possible for all users. Funds are released to you once the buyer marks the order as "received" OR 14 days after you've marked the order as "shipped" or "delivered", whichever is sooner. It may then take up to seven days for the money to reach your bank account, depending on your banking institution. If a buyer or seller disputes an order, the payout process is paused until the dispute is resolved. See Terms of Service for more information.

How much time do I have to ship or deliver an order?

As a seller, you must ship or deliver an order and mark it as shipped or delivered in the Order Details page within 14 days of the order being placed. If not, the order will be automatically cancelled and you won't get paid. The buyer will be automatically refunded. See Terms of Service for more information.

What happens after a seller ships or delivers my order?

Once your order is shipped or delivered by the seller, you must receive it and mark it as received in the Order Details page within 14 days. During this time period—if there is an issue with your order—you can file a dispute from the Order Details page. If no action is taken by the end of the 14 days, your money will be automatically released to the seller. The order will then be considered completed and no refunds or disputes are possible after that point. See Terms of Service for more information.

Why are user reviews important?

TackRoam is built on trust. At the very end of every transaction, the buyer and seller will be given the opportunity to review each other. Reviews include a brief written comment and an overall star rating. You can leave a review from the Order Details page, by following the links in your review email prompt, or by navigating to your INBOX and finding the transaction. Before purchasing items, it's a good idea to consider the overall rating of the seller by viewing their profile.

How do I edit a listing?

On desktop, navigate to your 'tackroom' by clicking on your profile photo and then clicking Your listings. On mobile, click on the three line main menu and then navigate to Your listings. Find the listing you wish to edit. Below the listing's title, select Edit listing.

How do I close a listing?

On desktop, navigate to your 'tackroom' by clicking on your profile photo and then clicking Your listings. On mobile, click on the three line main menu and then navigate to Your listings. Find the listing you wish to close. Click the three dots in the top right corner of the listing's photo. Select Close listing.

Can I return my order?

All sales on TackRoam are final and are made strictly between users. If you want the option to return the item, you'll need to check with the seller before purchasing from them. It is up to each individual seller to make that an option (or not) and explain their terms around postage, refunds, etc.

I haven’t received my order, what should I do?

Sometimes things take a bit longer than expected.

If your order was shipped:

  • Check on the postal carrier website using the tracking number the seller provided you.
  • Connect with the seller via the chat and let them know you haven't received the order.
  • If there's an issue with the transit of the item, open a dispute or contact TackRoam Support so the issue can be investigated before automatic payouts are triggered. The seller will be automatically paid out 14 days after the order is marked as 'shipped' or 'delivered' unless a dispute is opened.

If your order needs to be picked up:

  • Connect with the seller via the chat and coordinate a time to promptly pick up the order.
  • If you and the seller don't meet up (and the seller doesn't mark it as 'delivered') within 14 days of you placing the order, it is automatically cancelled and you receive a full refund.
  • If there's an issue, please contact TackRoam Support so we can assist you.

Who's responsible for the items, sales and purchases on TackRoam?

TackRoam is an equestrian-to-equestrian marketplace: an online platform that connects buyers and sellers. Buyers and sellers are responsible for the items, sales and purchases on TackRoam. We're here to help you connect, to provide the space for you to buy and sell, to support you and try to remedy issues. However, we are ultimately not responsible for the items, sales and purchases on TackRoam. See Terms of Service for more information.

Why should I upload a profile photo and write a bio?

It allows other users to connect with you and fosters trust on the platform. Buyers are more likely to purchase items from open, trustworthy sellers.

How can I avoid scams?

We haven't had any issues with scammers on TackRoam to date. The user rating system, built-in messaging and secure payment processing make it much less likely for scams to occur. However, users should always be vigilant. Scammers will sometimes attempt to move the conversation off-platform by asking you to email or text them. They may also attempt to move the payment off-platform by asking you to pay (or receive money) through a different channel. Do not accept these requests and please report any issues to TackRoam Support. We have the ability to ban users who are harming the safety and security of the platform. We always recommend buyers carefully assess seller profiles/ratings and ask questions before assuming the risk of a particular purchase.
